Define the technical foundation of a global crypto and stablecoin payments platform while remaining hands-on with its most complex, highest-risk backend systems.
About the opportunity
Cyclops is an all-in-one crypto and stablecoin platform built for payments companies. Through a single API, clients can access stablecoin settlement, pay-ins, payouts and treasury optimisation across global corridors.
The platform orchestrates leading custody, KYX and screening providers, with redundancy across major markets and more than 100 global licences. Cyclops announced a $20M Series A in July 2026.
This is an individual-contributor technical leadership role reporting to the Engineering Manager: approximately 30–50% architecture, with the remainder focused on the most complex backend implementation work.
What you'll do
- Design and evolve core platform services with clear boundaries, strong data integrity and production reliability
- Implement high-risk backend components in TypeScript and Node.js, owning correctness under partial failure
- Design retries, backoff, timeouts, idempotency, fallback modes and degraded-service behaviour
- Act as the primary technical contact for partner and client API or SDK integrations
- Drive improvements in metrics, logs and tracing, and participate in production incident analysis
- Raise engineering quality through code reviews, decomposition of ambiguous problems, pairing and documentation
- Identify architectural risks and scalability limits before they affect production
What we're looking for
- 6+ years of professional backend engineering experience with strong TypeScript and Node.js
- Deep hands-on crypto infrastructure experience running production systems that move real funds — a mandatory requirement
- Experience building orchestration layers over custody, KYX, screening or other third-party providers
- Strong knowledge of crypto transaction flows, settlement, ledgers, reconciliation and compliance in the money path
- Deep distributed-systems design experience across microservices, data models, APIs, queues and asynchronous communication
- End-to-end production ownership including on-call, incident response and debugging API or data failures
- Excellent PostgreSQL and SQL skills
- Daily, critical use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code or Copilot
- Strong written and spoken English, including defending technical decisions with partner engineers
Bonus points
- Experience in regulated financial environments, licensing, audits or compliance-driven engineering
- Kafka, RabbitMQ or SQS; Redis; Docker; Kubernetes; AWS
- Architecture leadership across time zones in a distributed team
What’s on offer
- $100K–$140K base, with the same band across geographies
- Full-time dedicated contractor engagement, typically through Deel
- Remote role working US Eastern hours with at least four hours of daily overlap with Central European time
- Argentina or Brazil preferred; EU and US candidates can also be considered
- Company-issued laptop and technology accessories
- Annual in-person full-team meetup
- Interview process: technical deep-dive and realistic live working session, culture and expectations conversation, co-founder call and offer call — no take-home and no LeetCode
